Ferrari
No manufacturer embodies the romance of the 24 Hours of Le Mans quite like Ferrari. Just two years after the company was founded, the young Maranello marque won the 1949 race with the 166 MM of Luigi Chinetti and Lord Selsdon — Chinetti driving for more than twenty hours single-handed. That first success opened the Prancing Horse's golden age at La Sarthe. The 1950s saw Ferrari trading blows with Jaguar and Mercedes: the 375 Plus won in 1954, the 250 TR58 in 1958. Then came the decade of total domination: six consecutive victories from 1960 to 1965, courtesy of the 250 TR59/60 and TRI/61, the 330 TRI/LM in 1962, the 250 P and 275 P prototypes in 1963 and 1964, and finally the North American Racing Team's 250 LM in 1965. That streak fuelled the most famous rivalry in motorsport history: after Ford's failed bid to buy Ferrari in 1963, the American giant unleashed the GT40 on Le Mans and ended the Italian reign in 1966. Ferrari then stepped away from the outright fight for half a century, focused on Formula 1, while remaining ever-present at La Sarthe through its GT cars — from the Daytona to the 488 and 296 raced by customer teams, AF Corse foremost among them. The return to the top, timed for the race's centenary, exceeded every expectation. The 499P, a Hypercar developed at Maranello and run with AF Corse, won on its debut in 2023 with the number 51 car, repeated in 2024 with the 50, then completed the hat-trick in 2025 with the yellow number 83 of Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson — the first customer-car victory of the Hypercar era. Three consecutive wins have restored Ferrari to the heart of the Le Mans legend. In 2026, the Prancing Horse fields its 499Ps in the FIA WEC once again, chasing a target nobody dares call unrealistic any more: matching the greatest winning streaks in the history of the race.
