Toyota
Toyota embodies one of the great perseverance stories of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Present at La Sarthe since the Group C era, the Japanese manufacturer spent three decades collecting near-misses and heartbreak: runner-up with the TS010 in the 1990s, beaten by a whisker with the GT-One in 1999, then struck to the core in 2016, when the leading TS050 Hybrid ground to a halt three minutes from the chequered flag. Few marques have given so much to this race before being rewarded. Deliverance came in 2018: the TS050 Hybrid of Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Fernando Alonso handed Toyota its first outright victory — only the second ever for a Japanese manufacturer, after Mazda in 1991. A streak of five consecutive wins followed: the TS050 triumphed again in 2019 and 2020, before the GR010 Hybrid, the first Hypercar ever to win the race, took over in 2021 with Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López, then again in 2022 with the number 8 crew. The massive influx of manufacturers into Hypercar has since reshuffled the deck: Toyota has finished behind Ferrari in 2023, 2024 and 2025, while remaining one of the absolute benchmarks of the category in the World Endurance Championship, backed by the long list of manufacturers' and drivers' titles amassed since 2014. In 2026, Toyota Gazoo Racing fields two GR010 Hybrids in the FIA WEC with undimmed ambition: to reclaim a Le Mans victory that has eluded it since 2022. The Cologne-based operation, which has made reliability and consistency its trademark, remains the yardstick against which the entire Hypercar field measures itself — heir to more than a decade of unbroken commitment at the summit of world endurance racing. Le Mans also remains central to the group's wider strategy, serving as a full-scale laboratory for the hybrid technology that made the brand's road cars successful worldwide.
